Burmese Star Tortoise
Visual Description
In front of you is a supersized sculpture of a slow-moving tortoise, its body low but its shell rising high in a rounded dome. As you place your hands on top, you’ll feel the height and curve of the shell, along with raised ridges that form a repeating star pattern radiating outward. This bold, geometric texture gives the tortoise its name.
Move your hands down along the sides to its front legs. They are thick and heavily textured, covered in large, scale-like plates. One front leg reaches forward, planted firmly on the ground, pulling the body ahead. As you follow the movement back, you’ll notice the hind legs positioned behind, pushing forward to catch up—capturing the slow, steady rhythm of how this animal moves.
At the front, the neck extends outward slightly, and the head is lifted and facing forward. You can feel its focus in this posture, as if it is calmly and deliberately making its way across the landscape. This sculpture captures motion at a slower pace—steady, grounded, and persistent. Every part of the body, from the strong, textured legs to the protective shell, works together to support a life built on patience and resilience.
